medici vase

Since the Renaissance, when the use of large-format antique garden vases increased, first in Italy and later in the parks and gardens of all major European courts, the Medici vase has been one of the most successful models representing the classical style.
The originally antique vase owes its name to the influential Italian Medici family, in whose inventory of the Villa Medici in Rome it was already listed in 1598. The original vase has been on display in the Uffizi in Florence since 1780.
Since then, garden architects have been decorating the gardens of European courtyards and palaces with more or less perfect monumental reproductions made from various materials such as marble, stone, bronze or cast iron. In Versailles, for example, there are various marble replicas carved by Jean Cornu. This model in particular is still used today as a template for the production of vases made of porcelain, terracotta or cast metal.
The Medici-inspired models of the FFCR Fábrica de Faianças das Caldas da Rainha from Portugal made of pigmented and hand-patinated fibre resin are guaranteed to be frost-resistant and permanently suitable for use in Nordic gardens.
